Making Hypocrisy A Virtue. It’s A Sickness

Speaker Mike Johnson on Wednesday rejected claims of hypocrisy with House Republicans pushing a contempt of Congress charge against Attorney General Merrick Garland when Rep. Jim Jordan and other Republicans refused to comply with January 6th committee subpoenas.

The House is set to vote on the contempt charge Wednesday, as Republicans accuse Garland of violating the U.S. Constitution by not handing over audio recordings of President Joe Biden’s interview with special counsel Robert Hur in his classified documents investigation. Johnson argued that was an offense worthy of a contempt charge, while the January 6th committee was unwarranted. Via The Recount.

When You’ve Been Exposed You Can’t Cover Up What’s Been Laid Bare

When Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi refused on Wednesday to seat Republican Reps. Jim Jordan of Ohio and Jim Banks of Indiana on the Committee to investigate the 6 January attack on the U.S. Capitol, minority leader Kevin McCarthy proved once again that he is not the brightest political bulb nor is he the American patriot that he pretends to be; not that anyone who knows Washington politics would ever think of McCarthy as a patriotic American with the courage to do what is required to save our fragile democracy.

The only reason McCarthy picked Jordan and Banks is to make sure they sabotaged the mission of the Committee, by any means necessary. So, in response to Speaker Pelosi’s decision, McCarthy pulled all five  Republicans he had submitted.

Republican Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming, appointed to the Committee by Pelosi and therefore not one of the five Republicans pulled by McCarthy, said she agrees with the Speaker’s decision. “This investigation must go forward. The idea that anybody would be playing politics with an attack on the United States Capitol is despicable and disgraceful”. more…

Not Even Pretending

Senator Lindsey Graham (Republican – South Carolina), Senator Ted Cruz (Republican – Texas), Senator Mike Lee (Republican – Utah), jurors in the second impeachment trial of Donald Trump, met Thursday evening with the former president’s defense team  ‘to work on strategy’.

Not even pretending to appear as impartial jurors, the three told reporters that they were ‘actively working with the defense team and other senators to ensure Trump is acquitted’.

So, the next time you hear a Republican senator rant that what America needs is law and order or that Republicans love cops and not robbers, please try not to vomit.
