Former occupant of the Oval Office who got booted out in 2020 said the civilian Medal of Freedom, like the one he gave to a billionaire donor, is better than the Medal of Honor awarded to active military and veterans injured or killed in combat. This from a guy who never served a day in any U.S. Military uniform. This from a guy who had his rich daddy get him five deferments to keep him far away from the Vietnam War.
VoteVets.org had this to say:
It isn’t a one-off insult of our Troops and our Veterans. It started when he got out of Vietnam by lying about bone spurs, continued on when he tried to kick Veteran vendors off of 5th Avenue, insulted John McCain, insulted Gold Star Families, called our fallen suckers and losers, refused to go to a military cemetery, told the military to stop having wounded warriors perform at ceremonies because “nobody wants to see that.” It isn’t just that Donald Trump doesn’t respect Veterans and their sacrifice. It’s that Donald Trump hates Veterans and their sacrifice, because he looks so small in comparison to them.
Background from CrooksAndLiars.com
Donald J. Trump, the Republican nominee for President, demeaned Medal of Honor recipients at his golf resort while praising GOP megadonor Sheldon Adelson’s widow, whom he bestowed the civilian Presidential Medal of Freedom. The felon said the award was “better” than the Medal of Honor for military valor. Unsurprisingly, Trump also awarded the late toxic conservative host Rush Limbaugh with the civilian award. Oh, and Jim Jordan, too.
“I have to say, Miriam, I watched Sheldon sitting so proud in the White House when we gave Miriam the Presidential Medal of Freedom,” Trump said. “That’s the highest award you can get as a civilian. It’s the equivalent of the Congressional Medal of Honor, but a civilian version.”
“It’s actually much better because everyone gets the Congressional Medal of Honor,” he falsely said. “That’s soldiers.”
“They’re either in very bad shape because they’ve been hit so many times by bullets, or they’re dead,” Trump continued. “But she gets it, and she’s a healthy, beautiful woman.”
“That’s right,” he added. “And they’re rated equal.”
Combat Veteran, Senator Tammy Duckworth on Trump:
He’s “despicable”
Trump said the nation’s highest civilian award was “much better” than the highest honor in the military because soldiers had to die or be severely wounded to receive it.
Duckworth was an Iraq War helicopter pilot and combat veteran who lost both her legs and some mobility in one arm when her Black Hawk helicopter was was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade in 2004.
“Donald Trump is despicable. He doesn’t deserve to be commander in chief. And certainly those remarks are consistent with where he’s always been. He thinks that we’re suckers and losers and, frankly, he’s not fit to be commander in chief.”
And, from October 2016:
Trump On Vets With PTSD: You’re Not Strong
To a room filled with military veterans (at the Retired American Warriors PAC), the 2016 Republican presidential candidate tried to bullshit his way through a question about vets and mental health issues and ended up suggesting that soldiers returning from combat suffering from PTSD are not “strong” and “can’t handle it”.
According to reports from inside the event, “there was silence in the room after his statement and people on social media were quick to express anger toward his comments.”
Anger? Yeah! Such comments from a piece of shit who schemed his way out of military service does infuriate, does raise one’s feelings of anger; But mostly, disgust!
And, yes, I am a Vet, you coward!
