Eleanor Roosevelt. Shirley Chisholm. Margaret Trudeau.

I could not, at any age, be content to take my place by the fireside and simply look on. Life was meant to be lived. Curiosity must be kept alive. One must never, for whatever reason, turn [her] back on life. Eleanor Roosevelt.

It is obvious that discrimination exists. Women do not have the opportunities that men do. And women that do not conform to the system, who try to break with the accepted patterns, are stigmatized as ‘odd’ and ‘unfeminine.’ The fact is that a woman who aspires to be chairman of the board, or a Member of the House, does so for exactly the same reasons as any man. Basically, these are that she thinks she can do the job and she wants to try. Shirley Chisholm.

Growing up in my generation, we were told that women need protection. A woman is precious and must be sheltered and cherished—what a load of BS! We don’t need protection, we need armor. Margaret Trudeau.
